After both the President and CEO - Akio Toyoda and the Chairrmain - Takeshi Uchiyamada said they want a new Supra.

Kinja'd!!!

Now Toyota USA Sales CEO Kazuo Ohara suggests that the project is coming closer and closer to reality thanks to Toyota’s push to add more exciting and sporty models to its lineup.

“We have several options to think about. I have yet to confirm, but we have several options and Supra is one of the options.” Earlier this year, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , saying that he hoped that !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! to develop a lightweight sports car would result in a midsize sports car resurrecting the Supra name. Uchiyamada reportedly expressed his interest in making this jointly developed sports car into a distinct model from the smaller Toyota GT 86 in order to ensure that the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! lives up to the Supra name.

However, from a BMW forum, comes the idea of a Z5.

Kinja'd!!!

We will shortly be presenting our collaboration with Toyota for a new interpretation of a new highly focused sports car first as a concept. The production car will be called the Z5 which allows us to align a new UKL (FWD) based Z1 with equivalent MINI sports car along with a mid sized Z3 (the name is coming back) which again could be aligned with Toyota. Although for some markets Toyota might use Lexus branding.

The Z5 Roadster will feature exterior and interior design from BMW, as well as BMW engines. Toyota will supply optional hybrid technology and BMW will supply CFRP in its construction. A coupe will follow.

The new "Z" design is influenced by the Vision ConnectedDrive Concept Car.

Z3 and Z5, two cars developed by Toyota and BMW?

I'm confused.

So we're getting the Z5/Supra, a Z3 to replace the Z4, and a FWD Z1 that would also slot somewhere in MINI's lineup?

If the source, from that forum, knows what is saying.

BMW has gone CRAY.

Z3 is coming back, when 3-series coupes have gone to 4-series?

WISKEY TANGO HOTEL, BRAVO MIKE WHISKEY???????

And people remember when Toyota helped Porsche with manufacturing production processes in the 1990s, which gave them the 986 and 996 interior build quality... and RMS/IMS.

Good grief, they have been re-treading that FT-HS concept FOREVER. It had a nice interior, but the styling is a bit weird.

That predates the beginning of FT-86 development by at least a year or two.

Yeah, Toyota saved Porsche's ass back then, they seem to cooperate pretty well with Germans, I really want to see those plans, taking shape.

Looks good, and is the closest to a modern Supra, than any other Toyota, at least until the Tokyo ms.

Saved at a cost.

986 and 996 are some of the least popular modern Porsches.

993, and 997/987 are both more popular, and both are reported to have better build quality.

Not that I have a problem with 996, I want one, but they have a reputation for the interiors not standing up so well, and requiring new engines.

It has a chin worthy of Jay Leno.

I am so tired of the blacked-out A-pillar, backward canted roof look.

BMW is good with complex bi- and tri-turbo set ups. The MK4 Supra certainly had a complex turbo set up.

Make sure the pig is big enough, because I don't see it costing less than $40.000-$50.000 or more.

I don't know, I think Toyota knows they priced themselves out of the market with the last Supra so they might try to make this one price competitive to the 370Z, Mustang and Camaro SS or at least in the same ballpark, starting around 35k or so.

They priced the GT86 reasonably and it sold well so I think we have hope that they will do the same with this.

They can always make a limited track/extra hp version later that costs more like Ford did with the Boss Mustang.

It could have BMW supplied carbon fiber or CFRP, and unless BMW found a way to make that cheap, aluminum cheap at least, the car will be expensive, not to mention expensive to ensure, as it could be a two seater. They should re-skin the roadster too, but into a Lexus. But hey, it will be so focused that will make circles around a Cayman an will stay on the tail of of a 911 and GT-R, maybe more, for half the price.

I think it would be a mistake to aim for the 911 and GT-R and a 50k starting price tag I think they would price themselves out of range for a lot of the people who would like to buy it. I think much past 40k starting price a coupe is a hard sell. You can do it but your chances of success get smaller I think.

I hope Toyota is aiming for the mainstream buyer here.

The 86 is mainstream, Supra should always he the best of Toyota, without upgrading to Lexus, but we'll see how the story evolves.

I'm selfish and want them to make something I can afford, if it's meant to compete with the GT-R then I'm priced out.
